Company Description Art House Astoria Conservatory for Music and Art is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Astoria, Queens. Our mission is to provide high-quality, affordable visual and performing arts education to students of all ages and abilities in Astoria and the surrounding Queens community. We strive to create a joyful, inclusive, and supportive environment where students can develop their artistic skills, build confidence, and discover their own creative voices. Role Description Art House Astoria is seeking a warm, versatile, and highly encouraging Singer-Songwriter Teaching Artist to teach private lessons in guitar, voice, and songwriting. This teacher will be stepping into a well-established studio previously led by a beloved longtime instructor who has built a loyal student base over many years. We are therefore looking for someone who is not only an accomplished musician and educator, but also deeply supportive, dependable, and skilled at forming lasting relationships with students and families. The ideal candidate is an active singer-songwriter who can help students develop practical guitar and vocal skills while encouraging creativity, self-expression, and original songwriting. Students may range from complete beginners to experienced performers and will include children, teenagers, and adults. Responsibilities include: Teaching individualized private lessons in guitar, voice, and songwriting Creating engaging lessons based on each student’s interests, goals, learning style, and experience level Helping students build healthy and effective vocal and instrumental technique Supporting students in writing lyrics, melodies, chord progressions, and complete original songs Introducing music theory, ear training, arranging, and accompaniment skills in practical and accessible ways Encouraging students with patience, warmth, and enthusiasm Preparing interested students for recitals, auditions, recordings, and other performances Communicating professionally and consistently with students, families, and Art House staff Maintaining a reliable weekly teaching schedule Participating in recitals and occasional community events

Requirements

Qualifications
Strong proficiency in guitar and contemporary voice
Experience writing and performing original music
Ability to teach songwriting, including lyric writing, melody, harmony, song structure, and creative development
Experience teaching students of different ages, backgrounds, abilities, and skill levels
A genuinely encouraging and student-centered teaching style
Ability to make lessons engaging, positive, and responsive to each student’s musical interests
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Experience preparing students for performances, auditions, or recordings
Ability to teach a range of contemporary musical styles
Reliability, professionalism, and the ability to build long-term relationships with students and families
Ability to work collaboratively with fellow instructors and administrative staff
A bachelor’s degree in music or a related field is preferred but not required. Equivalent professional performance, songwriting, and teaching experience will be strongly considered.
Additional proficiency in piano, music production, recording, or other instruments is a plus.
