Description

Marymount School of New York, an independent all-girls school, seeks a reliable and enthusiastic Middle School Handbells Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year to lead handbell classes and ensembles for grades 6, 7, and 8. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate music educator to inspire young musicians in a supportive and dynamic environment. Responsibilities: Teach handbell classes for grades 6, 7, and 8, including skills such as bell ringing, music reading, mallets, and chimes. Prepare students for two major performances: Christmas Mass: Monday, December 8, 2025, at 5:00 p.m Spring Concert: Friday, May 29, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. Lead three handbell classes (9–11 students each) and their respective ensembles. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment to develop students’ musical skills and passion for music. Schedule: Classes follow a recurring two-week cycle, starting with “A Week” on Monday, September 8, 2025. Classes are 45 minutes, but teachers are paid for a full hour per class. All classes occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays: Class VI (Grade 6): A Week: Tuesday 12:05–12:50 p.m., Thursday 1:45–2:30 p.m. B Week: Tuesday 8:20–9:05 a.m. Class VII (Grade 7): A Week: Tuesday 8:20–9:05 a.m., Thursday 9:25–10:10 a.m. B Week: Tuesday 9:25–10:10 a.m. Class VIII (Grade 8): A Week: Tuesday 12:55–1:40 p.m., Thursday 12:05–12:50 p.m. B Week: Tuesday 12:55–1:40 p.m.
Each class meets three times per two-week cycle.

Requirements

Requirements:
-Bachelor of Music degree (required).
-Demonstrated experience teaching music to students on a tuition basis (e.g., private lessons, group classes, or school-based music programs).
-Expertise in teaching handbells, including bell ringing techniques, music reading, mallets, and chimes.
-Strong classroom management and communication skills.
-Enthusiasm for working with middle school students in a collaborative, inclusive setting.
-Fingerprinting required before starting work.
-Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States
-A Master’s in Education or Music Education (or currently studying for one) is a plus.
