Procedure
Students play major scale
Using "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", or "Row, Row Your Boat", student identifies scale step one & five. End of song must be on scale step one.
Teacher demonstrates short examples and helps students generate their own phrases.

Teacher designates the key. Students improvise a four measure melody. Students must use notes of the scale and begin and end on the first scale step. Melody is four measures. Melody has four beats in each measure.
