Procedure

Listen to African Music as entrance music.
Physical Warm-up - Just Dance with African Music
Present African Music Slide Show
Chant rhythm and have students echo one phrase at a time for the A section
Teach pitches bottom part first
Put parts together

Subsequent Lessons:
Teach B section by rote starting with rhythm, then add pitches
Review A section
Continue teaching the rest of the piece in the same fashion

Students will sing the song in Swahili with accurate diction in the African style.
Students will also be able to discuss in detail the characteristics indicative of African style music with respect to how they are sung.
Students will understand the syncopated rhythms in the piece.
Students will gain stronger appreciation of African culture through text analysis.
Students will use dynamic contrast and various articulations found in the African style.
