Organist/Director of Music Ministries - Job Description Job Title: Director of Music Ministries Reports to: Minister Type of position: Part-time (10 hours per week) General Description: At Hopewell Reformed Church, our Christian mission statement is to know Christ and to make him known through our worship, our ministries and our engagement with the community. We seek an organist and Director of Music Ministries to help us achieve this vision. Skills/Qualifications: • Strong music skills and leads music proficiently. • Proficient in organ and piano. (Our church organ is a 1904 Emmons Howard with complete new action from 2014 and well maintained). • Possesses the ability to lead and direct choirs and small ensembles. Responsibilities include: • Play organ and piano accompaniment at weekly Sunday morning traditional services, special services and monthly rehearsals (includes prelude, three hymns, offertory anthem, postlude). • Select Sunday prelude, postlude, hymns and anthems with sermon themes in mind. • Ability to direct church choir. We have a choir director. Choir sings monthly. We would like the Director of Music Ministries to be available to sub. • Be available to play at funerals (approx. one per month) and weddings (approx. two per year). • Work in conjunction with leaders of other groups and music ministries. • Maintain instruments and music library in conjunction with other church musicians. Continue relationship with contractor for instrument repairs/tuning. • Hiring special guest musicians in a timely manner. (in coordination with the worship committee and the lead pastor. Guest musicians both paid and volunteer members of the congregation included for: Easter, Christmas, Music Sunday, during regular Sunday worship at least monthly, occasionally during funerals and weddings). • Incorporate guest musicians to enhance worship on a regular basis. • Attend staff meetings monthly. • Participate in quarterly worship planning meetings. Education and Experience: • Experience and competence in organ playing. • Experience in musical education and teaching others is preferred. • Formal education in theology is helpful but not required. • Ideal candidate will possess proven experience in leading a choir, working with church music, along with familiarity in liturgical practices. • Experience in leading congregational music.
