The NYSSMA Manual is a 600+ page reference book copyrighted by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA). It is updated every three years.
NYSSMA Manual Edition 33, effective July 2022-June 2025, (white pages/green tabs), is the current edition.
The NYSSMA Manual contains repertoire lists of instrumental and vocal music for solo and ensemble performance. It does not contain printed music. Each list is broken down into six levels of difficulty. The Manual also includes all of the Rules and Regulations as well as scale and sight-reading requirements for all NYSSMA-sanctioned evaluation festivals. The purpose of the NYSSMA Manual is for music teachers to use it as a guide in the preparation of their students for NYSSMA solo and ensemble festivals. If you are a music teacher and intend to send your students to NYSSMA festivals, please strongly consider purchasing a NYSSMA Manual.

NYSSMA Manual Edition 34, effective July 2025, (web-based edition) is required for use in all NYSSMA Festivals starting with the Spring 2026 Festival Season and will be in effect until the end of the Spring 2028 Festival Season (June 2028).
