Description
Music Teacher & Marching Band Director Marching Band Director & Music Teacher is a dual-focus flexible position of partial teaching and partial time devoted to the support of the Marching Band Program. This position is responsible for the leadership of the Marching Band program and the delivery of a comprehensive music curriculum. This individual will oversee all aspects of the marching arts while providing high-quality classroom instruction in music theory, technology, or performance-based electives. Essential Functions: Support the philosophy and vision of Jamestown Public Schools. Facilitate the intellectual and musical development of students with a focus on improving performance achievement. Create positive relationships with students, parents, and administrators. Communicate and demonstrate research-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned. General Responsibilities: Demonstrate willingness to assume leadership positions. Provide organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for students as needed. Assist students with instructional and musical decisions based on assessment data. Assist students with specific classroom and performance activities. Assist in creating materials that are in alignment with curriculum, including composition and theory resources. Conduct non-evaluative student assessments and rehearsals with the sole purpose of providing feedback that facilitates growth. Model effective, differentiated instruction in keyboarding, guitar, and world music when requested. Provide encouragement and emotional support to students. Encourage ongoing musical growth for all students. Manage time and schedule flexibility to maximize student learning and rehearsal schedules. Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals. Assist with development of district music curriculum, instruction, and assessments. Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with staff and students. Participate fully in professional development. Assist students in aligning their practice with appropriate standards, curriculum, and assessments. Work collaboratively and collegially with other music educators and district specialists. Work with district level coordinators to design and provide professional development focused on improving delivery of the music curriculum to increase student success. Encourage and support the implementation of technology and innovative strategies, such as music composition software, in the classroom. Administrative Support: Attend district level trainings. Assist in the development, monitoring, and implementation of student intervention plans. Assist with the implementation and monitoring of district music initiatives. Attend district meetings and trainings as assigned. Attend department meetings. Complete all necessary paperwork so students may compete at local and state competitions. Personal Skills: The ability to work effectively with diverse student learners. The ability to skillfully offer constructive feedback to facilitate musical change. The ability to be flexible, open, and willing to implement new ideas in the classroom and on the field. The ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities, projects, and tasks. The ability to work and contribute to a team, including booster organizations and auxiliary staff. The ability to seek resources and solutions to effectively solve problems.
