Description
The School of Communication and the Arts at Marist University invites applications for the position of Visiting Lecturer of Music/Interim Director of Athletic Bands with a focus on leading the university’s marching and pep bands. In addition, the successful candidate will be able to teach music history courses geared toward the first-year non-major, as well as other specialized courses such as Marching Band Drill Design or Instrumental Skills. The Music Program seeks a candidate with both ensemble direction and classroom teaching experience. Essential Functions: - Conduct the Marist University Marching Band and Pep Band for all home football and basketball games and post-season tournaments. - Work with Program leadership and Marist Athletics for the planning and coordination of annual pre-season Marching Band Camp. - Teach music courses related to the candidate’s expertise, including foundational music history courses offered to non-music students as part of the Core/Liberal Studies program. - Expand the size, scope, and diversity of the Music Program through creative and comprehensive musical programming initiatives, and other related outreach activities. - Meet with students outside of class time for additional instruction as appropriate. - Engage in a variety of service duties, including school and college committee service, admissions, recruitment, curriculum development and assessment, admissions, student affairs, and community/industry outreach.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Music, Music Education, or similar field.
- Two or more years of teaching experience and/or demonstrated ability to teach at the collegiate level.
- Evidence of inclusive teaching.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in Music/Music Education.
- Established reputation as a marching band director at the pre-college and/or collegiate level with a consistent record of creativity and/or scholarship.
- Two or more years of conducting, with evidence of effective conducting.
- A strong analytical and creative skill set, deep knowledge of the latest disruptions within music education, and the ability to teach and critique student work.
- Deep collaborative spirit to work with other Music Program faculty on curriculum development and interdisciplinary music performances.
