Students create each of the following variations of the motif: Transposition, Inversion, Retrograde, Retrograde Inversion, Augmentation, Diminution, Rhythmic Variation, (same pitch), Melodic Variation (same rhythm) Students use the above variations to expand the motif to a sixteen measure piece consisting of two eight measure phrases. the first phrase ends in a half cadence and the second phrase in a full cadence Students use this as the A section and expand it to an ABA composition using the developed variations. Students enter the composition to notation software. Students create a printed copy of the composition Students perform the composition on their instrument or voice.
