A Message from our Collegiate President:
Hello Collegiate NYSSMA Members,
Welcome to the NAfME-Collegiate/Collegiate-NYSSMA webpage!
As future music educators, it is important for us to strengthen our community so we all can enter the workforce prepared and confident to educate and uplift the musicians of tomorrow.
Here at Collegiate NYSSMA, our mission remains entirely centered around you! We are here to serve and represent you through building professional connections and providing meaningful educational experiences and leadership opportunities. Whether you are looking for event inspiration, connection with students from other institutions, or involvement with Collegiate NYSSMA, I encourage you to reach out. Our Province Representatives are eager to hear from you and would love to share your interests with the rest of our Executive Board.
My main goal entering this new academic year is to extend a branch to all programs across New York with the hopes of lifting them up and helping them grow. If your chapter is hosting an exciting event, please let me know. Our chapters can be strengthened by learning from one another, attending each other’s events or recreating them with our own chapters. You never know if you will spark someone’s interest or comfort them in showing that they are not alone in their musical journey as a collegiate student.

A Message from our Collegiate Advisor:
Welcome to the Collegiate NYSSMA Webpage brought to you on behalf of NYSSMA and our state collegiate members and faculty advisors.
As you check out the webpage, take a few minutes to get to know your state representatives, review our handbooks and updates, social media links for our chapters, current and past newsletters, as well as any other information.
Across the state, our collegiate chapters have been recognized for their positive contributions to music education at local, state and national levels. This continued success speaks to the caliber of music education in the great state of New York.
I am proud of the work of our state collegiate officers, especially for their commitment to their peers, NYSSMA and NAfME, as well as bringing a 21st century perspective to the future of music education.

Dr. Keith Koster
State Advisor for Collegiate NYSSMA (C-NYSSMA)
In addition to his work serving New York C-NYSSMA members, the state collegiate executive council, and NYSSMA, Dr. Koster is the program director for Graduate Studies in Music Education at Nazareth University School of Music, Rochester, NY.
For over 20 years, he has served as a collegiate advisor for C-NAfME chapters at colleges and universities around the United States. Under his mentorship, collegiate chapters have been recognized for excellence at state and national levels.
