President: Daria Barteldt

Daria Barteldt is a senior at the Aaron Copland School of Music.  As a cellist, her primary focus is in string education. She has been teaching privately for four years ages four to adulthood.  She currently teaches strings, voice, piano, and percussion at the Long Island Musician’s Center and Kolstein Music.  Daria has also had the pleasure of working at multiple music centers from the borough of Queens to Long Island. Beginning Summer of 2013, she attended and worked at USDAN: Summer Camp for the Arts. During this time, she had the chance to work with The Metropolitan Opera violist, Vincent Lionti; as well as Juilliard Pre-College, Adam Glaser.  Daria is currently an active member of Chapter 504 at Queens College and in 2019 served as secretary.  In her free time, Daria enjoys doing yoga, composing music, and painting.  She is looking forward to serving alongside an amazing E-board this upcoming year.

President-Elect: Chris McAfee

Christopher McAfee is currently a sophomore Music Education major at the Crane School of Music. He is primarily a tuba player with a degree focus in wind band. When home in Syracuse, Chris works privately with young learners in all brass instruments and performs with multiple community groups. In the coming year, Chris will reside as Treasurer of the Crane Student Association and will continue to be an active member of Crane’s NAfME Chapter #3. Going forward, he hopes to continue his studies in Music Education, Policy, and Administration. In his free time, Chris enjoys reading and exploring new places.

Secretary-Treasurer: Emma Clive

Emma Clive is a Senior Music Education and Horn Performance Major at Nazareth College. She is so excited to have the opportunity to serve on the collegiate board this year! Emma had the honor of serving as the Vice-President of the Nazareth NAfME chapter. Along with her studies at Nazareth, she is the librarian for the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band, as well as the accompanist for the on campus Catholic mass and Taize services. Emma loves to play in various ensembles as a horn primary, and she enjoys playing a little jazz and classical piano for fun.

Morgan Beaton is a senior Music Education major at Nazareth College. Her primary instrument is voice and her secondary focuses are in piano and conducting. Other leadership roles of hers included serving as the president of the Nazareth NAfME Chapter #328 for two years as well as serving as the president of the Nazareth ACDA Chapter. Aside from this, she has performed in the Nazareth Opera Workshop as Gretel from Hansel and Gretel by Englebert Humperdinck, sang backup vocals for Josh Groban, and toured with the Nazareth College Chamber Singers in Poland. She looks forward to serving on the Collegiate Board a third year!

 

Province Representatives:

Province 1: Julia Turner

Julia Turner is going to be a senior at SUNY Fredonia and has spent the past year serving as the president of Fredonia’s collegiate NAfME chapter. Julia’s concentration is in the clarinet, but is also very involved in teaching early childhood music classes. When she’s not in the music school she is dancing with Orchesis Dance Company where she is both a dancer and choreographer of many styles. She is very excited to represent zone 1 and work with other music education majors from around the state!

Province 2: Madi Yung

Madi Yung is from a small town in the Capital Region called Middleburgh, New York and is a junior vocal primary at Nazareth College. She has been involved with music since she was 5 when she began to perform in local musicals. Some activities she enjoys doing in her free time is playing tennis (badly), and hanging out with friends and family. She has known that she wanted to be a music teacher for as long as she can remember, and is super excited to be Province 2 representative!

Province 3: Halie Carden

Halie Carden is currently a junior Music Education major with concentrations in Voice and Special Education Music from The Crane School of Music. She works as the Social Media & SPW Coordinator for SUNY Potsdam’s Campus Life, and is a proud member of Sigma Alpha Iota and many other organizations on campus. When not working on her studies, Halie can be found working on graphic design, sewing, or spending time with friends and family. She is so excited for the opportunity to represent Province 3 this year, and can’t wait to build stronger connections with music majors across the state!

Province 4/5: Julia Stowell

Julia Stowell is a Music Education and Trumpet Performance major with a Spanish Studies minor at the Crane School of Music, Class of 2022. She is from Syracuse, NY. She has been the Public Relations Manager for the Crane Collegiate NAfME chapter during the 2019-2020 academic year, and will be continuing this position during the 2020-2021 academic year. She will also be the Public Relations Manager for the Crane Collegiate NYSBDA chapter during the 2020-2021 academic year. She is excited to represent Province 4/5 this year!

Province 6: Joseph Benedict

Joe Benedict is a senior Music Education major with concentrations in both choral and general music attending the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. He is a bass-baritone and a part of both the Crane Concert Choir and Crane Chorus. Joe is an active member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, previously serving as his chapters Vice President and the Province  17 Assistant Collegiate Province Representative. He has also played an active role in Potsdam’s LoKo Festival of the Arts student run Broadway Showcase.  This year, he is ecstatic to take charge of the Showcase as the Music/Stage Director. Joe has a deep passion for bringing people together and hopes to build stronger connections among collegiate musicians both in Province 6 and across the state.

Province 7: Kieran DeMaria

Kieran DeMaria is a senior music education major at Hofstra University on Long Island. Her primary instruments are flute and piccolo and she is in numerous ensembles on campus including both the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Symphony Orchestra. Kieran currently serves as the Hofstra NAfME Vice President, in addition to the undergraduate assistant of bands at the university. A Long Island native, Kieran enjoys teaching privately in local communities and volunteering with her colleagues at Nassau and Suffolk festivals. When not studying for her degree or practicing, Kieran enjoys going to the beach and playing with her dogs.
