PS 63 is looking for a music teacher who will coordinate their entire music program! The program is relatively new, having been successfully launched in 2015. There is a dedicated music room that is larger than a regular classroom (not common in NYC). The school has a classroom set of 3/4 size guitars (we had a full complement of Snark tuners and capos when I was there also), a classroom set of Casio mini-keyboards, and a classroom set of portable bells/glockenspiel as well as various core music classroom instruments and djembes. There is an acoustic piano from the Sing For Hope program as well as a full-sized Yamaha p-105 keyboard. Most importantly, the school administration supports the arts and the students have been highly responsive to the music program. The music teacher meets once weekly with all students and may have opportunity to run various ensembles (in the past, there has been an advanced keyboard ensemble, advanced guitar ensemble, and choir).
Please note that interested candidates need to be certified to teach in NYC.
