Description

Friends Academy seeks an inspiring music teacher to join a dynamic Arts faculty. The primary focus of this position is to guide students as they grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, performance, and understanding of both music and themselves. We are looking for a music educator who is comfortable working with all ages, with specific experience leading two divisions of Band instruction and ensembles. Other possible responsibilities include music theory or music studio instruction. Support activities that contribute to the life of the school and attend school productions, events, all-school faculty, department/division meetings, and back-to-school nights. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned) Plan, rehearse and conduct students in as many as 8 concert performances for school, including outside of regular school hours Program repertoire of all genres of music literature that are appropriate for ages and skill levels of students Develop and refine music curriculum based on NAfME’s standards of creating, performing, and responding Differentiate music instruction to meet individual student needs; balance individual musicianship and technical instruction with ensemble development. Evaluate and provide feedback about each student’s musical growth, including writing semesterly comments, offering letter grades, and maintaining frequent communication with parents Arrange parts, as needed to reflect emerging student literacy and technical skills, Organize effective daily rehearsal/class time (preparation, instruction, and clean up) Lead small-group lessons and/or sectional work on Conservatory Days ∙ Establish and foster an effective productive learning environment, in partnership with the department, divisional, and schoolwide student life expectations Maintain inventory and maintenance cycle for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment Instruct Upper School Music Theory and/or Music Studio classes as needed

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

BA in Music Education or relevant field of study, a Masters Degree is preferred

Models respect for others, enthusiastic with an encouraging attitude

Experienced and practiced in the latest music technology (Smartmusic, Finale, Sibelius, etc.)

Experience teaching and directing Middle or Upper School bands and wind ensembles

Experience teaching high school music theory

Brass or Wind player preferred, though all-instrumental proficiencies considered; piano skills are a plus

Have a strong background in instrumental music arrangement

Interested in DEI and Identity work and development

Will possess a growth mindset and will engage in ongoing professional development

Able to balance individual relational teaching with ensemble development
