Rye Country Day School is seeking a full-time middle school Choral Music Teacher beginning in August, 2023. Rye Country Day School is a coeducational, Pre-K-12, college preparatory school located in Westchester County, New York dedicated to providing students with an excellent education using both traditional and innovative approaches. Specific responsibilities of the position include: Teaching Choral Music in grades 5-8 Team-teaching an integrated class in the Performing Arts culminating in a 7th and 8th grade musical Teaching an additional Music elective in the Middle School Teaching elective, non-performance courses in the Upper School Preparing concerts and creating informal performing opportunities Nurturing a supportive, enthusiastic and inspiring atmosphere for students Communicating regularly with parents and guardians Participating in all-employee meetings and trainings Serving as a Middle School advisor and participate in grade-level advisory activities and field trips RCDS seeks faculty and staff who support our mission to foster a lifelong passion for learning, understanding, and service in an ever-changing world, and who share our commitment to creating and sustaining a vibrant, thriving, and inclusive multicultural learning community. Requirements
Masters Degree in Choral Conducting or Music Education
3-5 years of experience of teaching Music in a Middle School setting
A familiarity with diverse choral literature and current choral best practices
Warm and enthusiastic teaching style
Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills
Understanding of the adolescent singing voice
Background in the Kodály method
Keyboard skills
Experience in music technology and production a plus
Being consistent and reliable in teaching in two different divisions of the school
Commitment to professional development and personal growth
A well-developed sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members; a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
An ability and willingness to support the extracurricular life of the school
Genuine excitement for and ability to work with Middle School students, employees, and parents and guardians
Enthusiasm for the school’s various initiatives
