Description

Seeking a qualified, talented person to long-term sub for our Elementary Music program. Candidate will teach Monday-Thursdays 8am-4:15pm and Fridays 8am-3:15pm. Candidate will prepare and conduct 2 or 3 concerts throughout the year. Must have experience working with young children and preparing vocal concerts. Music theory and music history to be taught as appropriate for age. Piano playing experience a plus. Position Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Monday - Thursday 8am-4:15pm, Friday 8am-3:15pm work week • Prepare for and deliver instruction using appropriate music techniques • Teach pre-K, K, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade classes - 2 times per week per class • Teach each class 3 vocal songs for each concert • Prepare and conduct 2 or 3 evening concert performances • Teach music theory and music history as appropriate for age. • Other duties such as lunch duty or recess duty may apply • Create a warm and welcoming class environment in which young children can feel safe • Organize time effective rehearsals • If skill set allows, rehearse a Grade 7-9 percussion ensemble twice a week and prepare concerts • Write report cards for the term

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in music or the arts
• Experience as a music teacher working with small children
• Must feel comfortable in an active and noisy setting
• Effective time management and organizational skills to keep a group of stu-dents engaged
• Comfortable working and adapting quickly in a fast-paced environment with a variety of personalities
• Must demonstrate an understanding of basic music concepts and be able to communicate those concepts in a developmentally appropriate and age ap-propriate manner with students ages 3-9.
• Ability to pass a background check
