Requirements
NYS K-12 Music Certification
The successful candidate must have thorough knowledge of the New York State Music curriculum and must possess valid New York State certification in this subject. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work with elementary level children. Emphasis will be placed on experience with band. Candidates must be certified in K-12 Music Education and have extensive experience and skills working with a variety of classroom and band settings. The successful candidate will provide direct instruction in small group lessons and large ensembles (band) rehearsals at both the elementary and secondary level. The candidate may be required to teach general music, and any other duties as designated by the building principal. The successful candidate must also be able to instruct students in grade level music skills based upon New York State Standards. The teacher employed in this position will direct instruction, prepare class materials, evaluate student progress, communicate with parents and other district employees, write and direct learning activities, and provide other supervision and instructional services normally associated with the position of teacher.
