  1. Buffalo String Works (BSW) strives to deliver world class music education to diverse youth that inspires personal and community transformation. We are an after-school program providing rigorous music instruction and a creative home for youth in Buffalo, NY, many of whom are displaced from all over the globe. The Education Director (Ed. D) oversees program planning and collaboratively manages a team of Teaching Artists. The Ed. D has high artistic and community development standards, is flexible to the demands of a developing social program, and is able to merge the needs of students, families, and instructors to implement a successful program. The Ed. D is responsible for ensuring that our growing program reflects the core values of BSW: citizenship, rigor, inclusion, and empowerment. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Ed. D is part of the BSW leadership team that collaboratively creates and implements innovative program design. This is a full-time, year round position. Responsibilities: Program Planning including: -Lead program strategic planning -Set academic year and summer program schedules across multiple sites -Manage classroom tools, including Student Google Site -Maintain and develop the curriculum -Manage concert planning, including logistics and creative direction Evaluation -Manage and implement program evaluation using existing evaluation tools -Maintain and develop current evaluation process -Lead program-wide initiatives that address evaluation results Partnerships -Establish and build relationships with potential schools and community partners -Lead creative projects with arts partners Human Resources for Teaching Artists -Manage recruitment, hiring, and onboarding process -Supervise and evaluate Teaching Artists -Plan ongoing professional development using in-house and external facilitators -Lead Faculty Meetings -Manage Teaching Artist tools, including Teaching Artist Google Site Some classroom teaching and/or string orchestra direction may be included depending on the individual


-Degree in music education or equivalent experience
-Experience with culturally-responsive best practices in El Sistema-inspired programs or other social-change youth programs
-Demonstrated commitment to utilizing wide-ranging music education practices to foster a joyful and creative learning environment
-Experience facilitating collaboration with community-based organizations and/or public school systems
-Experience managing a team of colleagues with diverse skill sets
-Ability to initiate and manage multiple tasks
-Proficiency in Google G Suite products and willingness to learn new technology skills
-Excellent time management and organizational skills
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-Local travel, as well as evening and weekend availability
-Must pass background check
