revised RACAME Interview Manual will be available at the session. Those in

Educators and Industry: a Crucial Partnership for the 21st Century, Concert: The
Bulldog Brass Society


Sandy Feldstein Keynote Speaker: As president of Carl Fischer, LLC, Sandy
Feldstein combines a wealth of knowledge and success in both the business and
music aspects of music publishing and music education. He holds a doctorate from
Columbia University and his early experience in education includes six years as
professor of music education at the Crane School of Music, State University of
new York at Potsdam.



A prolific composer/arranger/author, Sandy has published more than 600 musical
compositions and books in all educational areas. His works are used daily by
thousands of students and performers. ASCAP has recognized his excellence by
granting him an ASCAP Standard Award fro Composition every year since 1964.
Among his numerous commissions, Sandy is most proud of being selected to compose
the theme song for the Music Educators national Conference sesquicentennial
celebration. The composition America Takes Note! Was performed by thousands of
school children during the years 1987-1988.


Sandy has over 30 years of publishing experience as an industry executive having
been executive Vice President of Alfred Publishing, President of Columbia
Pictures Publications and Belwin Music Inc., Warner Bros. Publications and his
own company, PlayinTime Productions, Inc. before becoming President of Carl
Fischer. He has been actively involved in the music industry as past president
of the Music Industry Council, the Percussive Arts Society and the National
Association of Band Instrument Manufactures. He is presently on the board of the
National Association of Music Merchants, the Music Achievement Council, the Phi
Mu Alpha Advisory Council and the MENC Foundation.


Sandy?s unique grasp of both the business and educational areas of music combined
with his creative talent, have made him a valuable lecturer, clinician and
conductor at universities and conventions throughout the world. These skills
have helped him reach his status as a highly regarded innovative leader dedicated
to developing the future of the music industry and of music education.


The Bulldog Brass Society Formed in 1996 as the premier graduate brass quintet at
the University of Georgia School of Music, and led by renowned trumpeter Fred
Mills, former first trumpet with the Canadian Brass, the Bulldog Brass Society
(BBS) is in its fourth summer in residence at the Hartwick College Summer Music
Festival & Institute, located at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. The
Bulldog Brass Society presents concerts all over the United States with a
repertoire ranging from Bach to modern premieres. They also perform more popular
selections including home-grown arrangements by the members and their coach. The
BBS has performed throughout the Southeastern, Eastern, and Midwestern United
States, as well as Europe, and South America. In the summer of 1998, the Bulldog
Brass appeared with the Georgia Brass Quintet at the "Concours International de
Quintettes de Cuivres" in Narbonne, France. Recently the Bulldogs were finalists
in the open division of the University of Georgia's International Brass Quintet
Festival.



The Cayuga Voice Ensemble, under the organizational umbrella of the Ithaca A
Cappella Association, has been presenting quality performances of vocal music to
the southern tier and surrounding areas for over two decades. The group,
performing first under the name Ithaca Art Ensemble, then as the Gerald Wolfe
Singers, has offered everything from madrigals to musicals, Bach to Britten,
oratorio to opera. Past concerts have included the Mozart Requiem and the Haydn
Creation with chamber orchestra, Vaughn Williams? Mass in g-minor, Bach motetes
and cantatas, and selections from the very best a cappella music from the
medieval period through the 20th century. The Cayuga Vocal Ensemble, an
audition-only group, is comprised of sixteen professionally trained singers. Our
singers have performed with Tri-Cities Opera Company, The Gregg Smith Singers,
the Syracuse Symphony, Ithaca Opera, and other noted musical organizations; they
are also contributing members of the educational and business community. Among
our ranks are Cornell and Ithaca College administrators and faculty members,
teachers from the public school system, and local business owners.


Lawrence Doebler was named the organization?s third music director in June 1999.
Lawrence Doebler is a professor of music at Ithaca College where he serves as
director of choral activities. With over twenty years of teaching at the college
to his credit, his duties include conducting the Choir, Madrigal Singers, and
Choral Union and teaching conducting, choral techniques, and choral literature.
Early training in keyboard, strings, voice, and brass led to degrees in
conducting from Oberlin Conservatory and washington University in St. Louis.
Professor Doebler began his professional career in 1969 at Smith College. From
1971 through 1978 he taught and conducted at the University of Wisconsin at
Madison. Mr. Doebler has received awards for research and teaching excellence
from the University of Wisconsin and Ithaca College, and has appeared throughout
the eastern and midwestern United States as a clinician and guest conductor. As
an editor of ?no barline? Renaissance music, mr. Doebler?s editions are published
by the Lorenz Company in the Roger Dean catalogue. In addition to his academic
appointments, he has served as director of music at churches in Cleveland, st.
Louis, Madison, and Ithaca.
