Rules for Private School and Home Educated Students
- Private school students who attend a K-12 private school are eligible to attend solo festival, Area All-State, and All-State as long as their private school has paid its NYSSMA Member School Participation Fee. They must register through their private school.
- Private school students who attend a private school which does not offer a HS diploma (i.e. a K-8 school) may attend solo festival if they register through their public school district. It is the public school teacher's choice whether to register them or not.
- Home educated students may attend solo festival if they register through the public school district in which they reside. It is the public school district's choice whether to register them or not.
- Home educated students may not apply for All-State or Area All-State. The applications clearly state, "Applicant must attend a NYSSMA Member New York State School."
Advocacy
Several of you have already contacted me to express concern for your programs. NYSSMA will soon have advocacy information on the homepage of the website with links to other websites as well. Focusing on the positive benefits of the arts and keeping your program in the public eye as much as possible can go a long way to save programs.
Adjudicator Training
Spring 2009
As the number of students attending NYSSMA Solo and Ensemble Festival increases, so does the need for qualified certified adjudicators. Please consider completing Adjudicator Training this year. Check the School Music News or contact Tammy Madeja at zone5@nyssma.org for more information.
