The NYSSMA Research Committee meets once each year at the NYSSMA Winter conference on Saturday noon. Current committee members are:
Janice Smith, Queens College, CUNY, chair
Mark Campell, Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam
Donna Fox, Eastman School of Music
Maria Runfola, SUNY Buffalo
Michael Albertson, NYC Public Schools.
Melissa Natale-Abramo, North Salem Public Schools
Other public school members are being sought. Volunteers would be welcome. Meetings are open to anyone with an interest in music education research and in promoting research awareness among NYSSMA members.
The NYSSMA Research Committee sponsors a Research Gallery on Saturday morning in the lobby of the convention center. A call for abstracts is sent out via email and the Asmus Music Education Research listserv in early April with submissions due by May 15th. Notification of acceptance is in early June with a reminder in October.
Other research presentations occur on Saturday as well. The call for proposals for these sessions appears in the November issue of the School Music News and are due in early December shortly after the winter conference. Interested researchers are encouraged to also send an email copy of their proposals directly to Dr. Smith.
